What is niacinamide?
What is niacinamide?
Niacinamide is the amide form of vitamin B3.
The lack of it in the body is the cause of diseases, among other things dermatitis, intestinal problems and even dementia. Usually we acquire it through our diet through meat and vegetables.
This molecule plays an important role in various processes related to the energy and vitality of cells.
But let's go to what matters to all of us, how does it affect your skin?
The positive effects for your skin occur with much higher concentrations than those we normally produce naturally, this is where the cosmetics we use come into play.
What effects does it have on your skin?
IMPROVES THE BARRIER FUNCTION
Niacinamide stimulates the production of ceramides (fat cells that are found between the skin cells and that prevent, among other things, dry skin). These are important for maintaining your skin's lipid layer (the protective layer of fat), which makes it very useful if you suffer from atopic dermatitis or rosacea.
It also reduces the release of stamina (causing allergies and hives), which makes niacinamide in your cosmetics effective in soothing itching
DEPIGMENTING EFFECT
As you may know, most of the depigmenting products that you find on the market directly attack the production of melanin in our skin.
On the contrary, niacinamide works on another level. It prevents the melanin from passing to the keratinocytes (the most superficial cells of your skin, so as not to get too technical we will say the cells that turn brown), when the melanin accumulates in these cells is when the spots appear.
By having a different effect and function than what we normally use with other depigmenting products, niacinamide is a great complement to treat dark spots and photoaging.
ACNE TREATMENT COMPLEMENT
Niacinamide has been shown to reduce sebum production in your skin, which is always good news if you have acne-prone skin.
In addition, dermatological studies show that it has anti-inflammatory power, which is great for marks caused by pimples.
And now, the million dollar question...
